At its' last meeting in Porto, Portugal in September 2014 the Diagnosis Development Committee (DDC) made some important decisions. You will be aware that the Taxonomy Committee was recently merged with DDC and this change, together with an ever increasing list of strategic issues that require active management, mean that DDC needs to focus on these issues in the short-term, rather than on reviewing recently submitted potential diagnoses.

The list includes resolving the ongoing debates about: diagnostic concepts versus focus, syndrome diagnoses, granularity, standardising structures for diagnoses, the level of evidence criteria, language issues and establishing a way forward for the Taxonomy III validation (the draft of which can be found in the latest NANDA-I book). A number of task and finish groups have been established to take forward this work. DDC have set an initial deadline of 30 January 2015 for the more straightforward work to be completed and for the receipt of progress reports about the more complex items. DDC will consider this feedback at its' meeting on 11 February 2015. DDC invites you to submit views on any of the aforementioned topics directly to the DDC Chair at:

In the meantime, new submissions will be acknowledged and screened by the Chair but not entered into the review process until Spring 2015. If you have any questions about your submissions please contact Courtney Trofka at: who will be happy to assist you.

DDC volunteers trust that submitters and NANDA-I members will understand the importance of resolving these important strategic issues.
