T. Heather Herdman, PhD, RN, FNI
CEO and Executive Director

Dr. Herdman obtained her bachelor’s degree in nursing from the University of South Carolina (Columbia) and her master’s and doctoral degrees from Boston College. She has held positions in neonatal intensive care, labor/delivery and high-risk antenatal care, including as a clinical nurse specialist. Her administrative experience includes leadership positions in nursing administration, quality/clinical effectiveness, and research and strategic planning. She served as Chief Strategic Officer for a medical technology company in Hawai’i before becoming the Chief Executive Officer and Executive Director of NANDA International, Inc. (NANDA-I).

She previously held positions as Chair of the Diagnosis Development Committee, President-elect and President of NANDA-I; she has also been involved in the Wisconsin Nurses’ Association (former Chapter V President), and Sigma Theta Tau (president-elect, Kappa Pi Chapter-at-Large). In 2012, Dr. Herdman received the Mentor’s Award from, and was named a Fellow of, NANDA International, Inc.

Her areas of interest include health care administration, clinical reasoning and diagnostic reasoning, and integrative health. She is currently working on a joint project with NANDA-I and the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay, to develop an e-tool to support the development of nursing clinical reasoning and diagnostic abilities. 
Sarah Tulley
Association Services Manager

Sarah Tulley serves as the Association Services Manager at NANDA-I. Prior to joining NANDA-I, Sarah worked as an administrative assistant at Grantmakers In Health and as a program assistant for the Hewlett Foundation’s Global Development Program. She has extensive experience in many of the facets of association  management, including meeting planning, member services, social media, and communications. Additionally, she has worked for a variety of nonprofit organizations focusing on a diverse range of issues, including politics, campaigns and elections, and public education. Sarah graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh with a bachelor’s degree in international studies and political science in 2005. She looks forward to learning more about the field of nursing, particularly nursing diagnosis, and helping to grow NANDA-I for the future!
