NANDA-I TAXONOMY DATABASE
On November 10th, 2011 the Microsoft Access database was updated to include the 2012-2014 changes with domains, classes, nursing diagnoses, defining characteristics, related and risk factors. Nursing diagnoses #122 was removed from the database. I attempted to work with the relationship of characteristics and factors to the nursing diagnoses with the XML for one of the domains. This is going to take some extensive work to rebuild the relationships.
NNN ALLIANCE
Participated in meetings with Sue Moorhead and Heather to develop the relationship and activities between NANDA- International and the Center for Nursing Classification and Clinical Effectiveness. Steps include having a joint website for NNN Alliance and highlighting significant publications that warrant notification of value on the website. The CNC and NANDA-I are sharing a booth at the Montreal Nursing Informatics conference. Gail Keenan is interested in attending and helping with the booth at this conference.
MEETINGS
Attended online ANI meeting in December 2011and shared the NANDA-I conference details. Participated in the Taxonomy Committee meeting February 10-11 in Boston and took note of the discussion we need to have moving forward with joint taxonomy that serves nurses in the field with all of the other languages.
2012 CONFERENCE
The Scientific Committee had several meetings and activities through December – March to get titles and objectives from Keynote speakers, finish any outstanding reviews of abstracts. Over 200 abstracts were accepted for poster and oral presentations. The committee identified presenters of posters and papers for each themed session and organized the conference schedule with these abstract presenters intermixed with the keynote sessions. We had many abstracts that aligned with the theme of Defining Knowledge. All first authors were informed in January of their time on the schedule and were provided instructions on presenting papers and posters and displaying posters for the 3 day conference.
Instructions were developed and shared in January for student-roles and host-roles assigned to each of the session rooms to help keynote and non-keynote sessions. The steps and efforts to find additional sponsors and exhibitors is ongoing. The schedule for the conference is posted on the web for all to display in pdf format thanks to Mary and Heather. Heather has been working with all keynote speakers to arrange flights and rooms for the conference. Mary Ann Lavin will be presenting her work and findings on the NANDA International Foundation grant she had received several years ago.
The General Business meeting for NANDA–I is schedule for Thursday evening before everyone goes out for evening meal. There is a Publication committee meeting with the editor schedule during the lunch break 12- 1:30 pm on Thursday, May 24th. We have scheduled a joint NANDA-I and CNC Board meeting for the evening of May 26th. This will include new board members who are staying over for the Sunday Board meeting.
STRATEGIC PLANNING
On March 15th I attended the technology strategy planning meeting with Heather and Dickon. This provided a joint opportunity to share ideas about strategic directions and needs.
As the future president, I have been outlining some ideas for the strategic plan which emphasize our needs that have been expressed in past meetings, such as more translation options for the website; identifying new needs for evidence-based knowledge that use the nursing diagnoses taxonomy. Our new direction likely markets us as a knowledge association or society rather than only having a role as a terminology developer. This would allow us to expand as a knowledge developer.
